Oil-filled… PCBs… Non-PCBs…
(Oh my!)
Oil-filled electrical equipment, such as switches, transformers, capacitors, and the like can pose a challenge for clients.
Even when a customer possesses paperwork from GE, Westinghouse, Allis Chalmers, and others that stated that their equipment was PCB or Non-PCB, we always require a sample of the fluid.
Many times in the 80’s we have seen a unit serviced to replace bushings and the electrical contractor topped off the unit with PCB contaminated mineral oil. I can’t tell you how many times when asked for transformer oil analyses, a client has provided results for Carbon and Moisture but no results for PCBs. Please have your Transformer Service Technician analyze the fluids for Polychlorinated Biphenyls each and every time you service the unit.
Our crews can assist in oil collection and analyses, should you require this service. We will gladly handle the decommissioning of entire substations, draining and retro-fill of single units, or removal and disposal of package systems.
